ns it any wonder our schools are struggling to care for our children. All adults affect child development. All. Classroom educators are being asked to be part of an overall care team and in many cases, the make up of the cross-functional team has not been defined, discussed or planned with them. In many cases it's a team of one - the classroom educator - who is also managing 29 other student "teams."
Tired. Hungry. Hurt. "School" is the caregiver for 10 hours a day Schools in the 1950's were homogeneous. Now they look like our family - multicultural, mixed-income, fluid. Schools of the 21st century are filled with working parents. We used to be raised by a village; now we are parenting in isolation.

The best thing I could have done, for all of our sanity, is introduce videos (soundless, train YouTube videos) that they can watch in three or four minute bursts.
